ดัชนีดาวโจนส์ฟิวเจอร์พุ่งขึ้นกว่า 100 จุดในวันนี้ ขณะที่นักลงทุนจับตาถ้อยแถลงของนายเจอโรม พาวเวล ประธานธนาคารกลางสหรัฐ (เฟด) ต่อสภาคองเกรสในวันนี้

สำนักข่าวหลายแห่งได้ทำการเผยแพร่ล่วงหน้าสำหรับร่างแถลงการณ์ที่นายเจอโรม พาวเวล ประธานธนาคารกลางสหรัฐ (เฟด) เตรียมกล่าวต่อคณะกรรมาธิการบริการการเงินประจำสภาผู้แทนราษฎรในวันนี้ เวลา 10.00 น.ตามเวลาสหรัฐ หรือ 22.00 น.ตามเวลาไทย ก่อนที่จะกล่าวต่อคณะกรรมาธิการการธนาคารประจำวุฒิสภาในวันพรุ่งนี้

ทั้งนี้ นายพาวเวลมีกำหนดกล่าวถ้อยแถลงต่อสภาคองเกรสในสัปดาห์นี้เพื่อแสดงวิสัยทัศน์เกี่ยวกับภาวะเศรษฐกิจสหรัฐ และนโยบายการเงินของเฟด ท่ามกลางการพุ่งขึ้นของเงินเฟ้อ และวิกฤตการณ์ในยูเครน

สื่อรายงานว่าแถลงการณ์ของนายพาวเวลระบุว่า เฟดจะยังคงทำตามแผนการปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ยในเดือนนี้เพื่อควบคุมเงินเฟ้อ แม้ว่าวิกฤตการณ์ในยูเครนได้สร้างความไม่แน่นอนอย่างมากต่อแนวโน้มในอนาคต

นายพาวเวลระบุว่า เงินเฟ้อที่พุ่งสูงและตลาดแรงงานที่ตึงตัวอย่างมากเป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้เฟดต้องปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ย

"เราคาดว่าจะเป็นการเหมาะสมที่เฟดจะปรับขึ้นเป้าหมายอัตราดอกเบี้ยระยะสั้นในการประชุมของเราในเดือนนี้ และเฟดจะทำการปรับลดขนาดงบดุลภายในปีนี้ จากปัจจุบันที่ระดับ 8.5 ล้านล้านดอลลาร์"

"ผลกระทบในระยะใกล้ต่อเศรษฐกิจสหรัฐจากการที่รัสเซียรุกรานยูเครน, สงครามที่เกิดขึ้น, มาตรการคว่ำบาตร และเหตุการณ์ที่จะเกิดขึ้นต่อไป ยังคงมีความไม่แน่นอนอย่างมาก โดยเราจะต้องดำเนินการตามข้อมูลที่ได้รับ และแนวโน้มที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไป" นายพาวเวลกล่าว
อย่างไรก็ดี นายพาวเวลไม่ได้ส่งสัญญาณว่าเฟดจะปรับขึ้นอัตราดอกเบี้ยเร็วและแรงเท่าใด โดยระบุแต่เพียงว่า เฟดคาดหวังว่าอัตราเงินเฟ้อจะชะลอตัวลงในปีนี้

นอกจากนี้ นายพาวเวลระบุว่า การแพร่ระบาดของโควิด-19 ได้ส่งผลกระทบที่เบาบางลงต่อเศรษฐกิจ ขณะที่การจ้างงานยังคงแข็งแกร่ง และเงินเฟ้อถือเป็นปัจจัยความเสี่ยงที่สำคัญที่สุด
