เมื่อเวลา 15.20 น. วันที่ 21 ก.ย.ที่ทำเนียบรัฐบาล นายธนกร วังบุญคงชนะ โฆษกประจำสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรี ตอบคำถามสื่อมวลชนตามที่ พล.อ.ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี มอบหมาย ถึงการลงพื้นที่ของนายกรัฐมนตรีในวันที่ 22 ก.ย. ที่จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ซึ่งชนกับการลงพื้นที่จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา ของ พล.อ.ประวิตร วงศ์สุวรรณ รองนายกรัฐมนตรี ในฐานะหัวหน้าพรรคพลังประชารัฐ (พปชร.) ถูกมองว่าเป็นการวัดพลังของ 2ป. ว่า เรื่องดังกล่าว พล.อ.ประยุทธ์ยืนยันว่า ไม่เกี่ยวข้องกัน อย่าหาเรื่องมาสร้างความขัดแย้ง การลงพื้นที่ต่างๆ ที่นายกรัฐมนตรีได้สั่งการใน ครม. โดยมอบหมายให้รองนายกรัฐมนตรีและรัฐมนตรีทุกคนได้ลงพื้นที่ ตรวจเยี่ยมพื้นที่ หากไม่ติดราชการสำคัญเพื่อไปรับฟังปัญหาความเดือดร้อนของประชาชน และเพื่อเป็นการเตรียมการในการแก้ปัญหาอุทกภัยไว้ล่วงหน้า

เมื่อถามว่า นายกรัฐมนตรีเหนื่อยหรือไม่กับศึกการเมืองทั้งในและนอกพรรค รวมทั้งการเมืองบนท้องถนนในขณะนี้ นายธนกร กล่าวว่า พล.อ.ประยุทธ์ ชี้แจงว่าเหนื่อยไม่ได้ และต้องขอบคุณรองนายกรัฐมนตรี บรรดาคณะรัฐมนตรี และข้าราชการทุกกระทรวง รวมทั้งเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจ ทหารและหน่วยงานด้านความมั่นคง และประชาชนทุกคนที่เข้าใจ ร่วมมือในการปฏิบัติตามกฏหมาย ทั้งนี้นายกรัฐมนตรีเห็นใจผู้ที่เดือดร้อนจากเหตุการณ์ชุมนุม อย่างไรก็ตามมีหน่วยงานที่รับผิดชอบดูแลอยู่แล้วซึ่งจะดูแลตามกฏหมาย ทั้งนี้ สังคมก็ต้องช่วยกันดูแลเพราะเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนของผู้อื่น
