ประธานาธิบดีสี จิ้นผิง ของจีน ประกาศเมื่อวันพฤหัสบดี (5 ส.ค.) ว่า จีนจะจัดส่งวัคซีนป้องกันโรคโควิด-19 จำนวน 2,000 ล้านโดสให้แก่ประเทศต่างๆ ทั่วโลกภายในปี 2564 นี้

นอกจากนี้ ประธานาธิบดีสียังระบุว่าจีนจะบริจาคเงิน 100 ล้านดอลลาร์ให้แก่โครงการโคแวกซ์ซึ่งเป็นโครงการกระจายวัคซีนให้แก่ทั่วโลก โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งบรรดาประเทศกำลังพัฒนาทั้งหลาย หลังจากที่ผ่านมา จีน ได้จัดส่งวัคซีนจพนวนกว่า 770 ล้านโดสไปให้ประเทศอื่นๆ

ทั้งนี้ เมื่อเดือนก.ค.ในการประชุมฉุกเฉินในระดับประมุขแห่งรัฐและรัฐบาลกลุ่มความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจในเอเชียแปซิฟิก (เอเปก)ทางออนไลน์ ประธานาธิบดีสี สัญญาว่าจะให้ความช่วยเหลือทางการเงิน 3,000 ล้านดอลลาร์ แก่ประเทศกำลังพัฒนาเพื่อนำไปต่อสู้กับโควิด-19 ให้ฟื้นตัวจากผลกระทบทางสังคมและเศรษฐกิจ
